5 Must-Visit West Village Coffee Shops

Dripos takes on the West Village in search of independently owned coffee shops. Here are 5 worth visiting.

5 Must-Visit West Village Coffee Shops

New York City is renowned for its dynamic and diverse coffee scene. The West Village, with its charming streets, is no exception. This neighborhood is home to a range of coffee shops, each offering something unique. From perfected espressos to cozy atmospheres perfect for catching up with friends or getting some work done. Here are five standout coffee spots in the West Village that you won’t want to miss.

Hungry Llama - 679 Washington St, New York, NY 10014

Hungry Llama is a bustling haven for coffee lovers. It is a perfect spot to order a coffee and do some work. There are plenty of seats, but it fills up quickly. This shop serves up a variety of drinks. Their specialty drinks, such as the Honey Whipped Latte, showcase creative flavor combinations that keep patrons coming back for more. The honey whip is also dairy-free, which is great news for our non-dairy friends. Don’t forget to try one of their croissants, blueberry muffins, or even their full menu of food to complement your caffeine fix.

Asano Cafe - 289 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10014

Asano Cafe is the perfect place to order a unique coffee, along with a pastry, and work your day away. The location I went to was inside a large restaurant with plenty of seating. The coffee shop will take over a restaurant during the day while the restaurant is closed. A concept that has sparked conversation in the coffee community. There were people around, but plenty of space. I ordered their signature latte, and it was the perfect blend of coffee and coconut flavor, not too sweet but still did the job well. The dream behind Asano is inspiring and is duly noted when you enter the cafe. “In Japanese, ASA means morning, and NO is short for noren, which are our striking poppy-colored entryway curtains. They're your signal that beyond those curtains await phenomenal coffee, crave-worthy pastries from local bakers, and baristas who remember your name. Through each ASANO cafe, we celebrate local spaces that differ by neighborhood, while keeping our standards consistently excellent,” says the founder of Asano.

Amano Café - 172 W 4th St, New York, NY 10014

At Amano, the experience goes beyond just coffee. This artisanal roastery emphasizes a farm-to-cup approach, offering a curated selection of single-origin coffees. With a menu that regularly changes based on seasonal availability, coffee enthusiasts can expect to taste a variety of flavor profiles. The modern and welcoming interior is complemented by a selection of light bites and pastries, making it a great spot to relax or catch up with friends. I tried the drink called “Rocket Fuel,” and it lived up to the hype. This drink is a cold brew-based drink that they shake with milk and pour over ice. Kept me caffeinated all day long.

L’Appartement 4F - 119 W 10th St, New York, NY 10011

If you’ve ever dreamed of trying a Parisian cafe without leaving New York City, L’Appartement 4F is your answer. This quaint window cafe mimics the charm of a French street. The baristas serve expertly brewed coffee alongside a variety of French pastries, from flaky croissants to rich éclairs. Whether you’re meeting friends or enjoying a solo morning ritual, L’Appartement 4F offers a delightful ambiance that makes every visit special. I tried the Maple Sea Salt Latte - it was definitely on the sweeter side, but it went down as easily as ever.

The window where dreams, I mean, croissants and coffee are made.

Arcane Estate - 37 Cornelia St, New York, NY 10014

Rounding out our list is Arcane Estate, a unique boutique coffee shop that draws inspiration from the art of coffee brewing. This shop combines the love for coffee with artistic expression, making it a cultural hub in the West Village. With a stylish interior adorned with local art, patrons can enjoy a meticulously prepared cup of coffee while appreciating the creative atmosphere. This place knows its coffee, and they do it well. You can tell that the espresso was perfectly dialed in, and the baristas truly care about what product they are serving. Highly recommended to any coffee connoisseur.

The inside is even better than the doors.
